The Tamils are an ancient people today. Their record experienced its beginnings while in the abundant alluvial plains close to the southern extremity of peninsular India which involved the land mass generally known as the island of Sri Lanka today. The island's plant and animal lifestyle (such as the presence of elephants) evidence the earlier land
